Cyber
Guard 2024
A bit different security conference
powered by A1 & CSI.hr
For the first time, A1 Croatia and the Croatian Safer Internet Center (CSI) organized a conference dedicated to creating a safer digital world for everyone, especially children. This unique conference brought together more than 350 leading experts in the fields of cybersecurity, protection of business dynamics and business security solutions, technology, education, and other key sectors, aiming to foster dialogue and knowledge exchange.
Through inspiring conversations and examples of best practices, we explored how each of us can contribute to building a responsible and safe online environment for future generations.
Program
The conference program had two streams. #BoljiOnline aims to protect children and young people online, while #BizSecurity focuses on cyber security, business protection, and the presentation of business security solutions.

Why CyberGuard?
Date
3.10.2024.
Location
Mozaik Event Centar
Conference type
Invitation only
The internet is an endless source of possibilities, but it also carries numerous risks that we often overlook. We see the CyberGuard 2024 conference as a key step towards our goal: creating a safer, more positive, and healthier digital environment for all of us.
For 25 years we have been connecting Croatia, supporting digitalization, and setting technological standards, while recognizing our responsibility in building a safer internet.
In collaboration with the Croatian Safer Internet Center (CSI), we launched the #BetterOnline platform, aimed at raising awareness and educating the public about online risks. Furthermore, given the growing threat of internet fraud and hacker attacks, we offer our business users the most advanced security solutions. For these reasons, we decided to organize a conference that will unite cybersecurity and children’s online safety, providing the latest insights, best practices, and advice in these areas.
#BoljiOnline, #BizSecurity
KEYNOTE LECTURE: A Prosecutor's Perspective on Combatting Online Child Exploitation
Presentation will provide insights on how to protect children online based on Kristi O'Malley's experience as a prosecutor handling cases involving child exploitation
KEYNOTE LECTURE: How to avoid being the weakest link in the cybsecurity chain
The lecture will cover the key aspects of modern cyber security, emphasising the role of private security in business security. We will consider why each of us is an essential part of the business and the global cybersecurity network and how our activities can affect overall security. We will discuss the types of attacks that target private and business accounts, why we receive spam messages, and their real purpose. We will cover the importance of information compared to money and how ransomware and digital extortion threaten our security. The lecture will also explain why attacks often start with individuals, how open-source intelligence is used, and to what extent social engineering is a threat. Finally, we will explore the current role of artificial intelligence in the future of cybersecurity and how it can help us fight digital threats.

LECTURE: Addressing Online Child Sexual Exploitation and the Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
In response to increasing online sexual harms to children and the proliferation of CSAM globally, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) created Project Arachnid to reduce CSAM availability and advance international collaboration in the fight against CSAM and harmful/abusive material of children. Additionally, C3P developed a support model for survivors of and families affected by online child sexual exploitation and abuse. The presentation will provide an overview of Project Arachnid and how the C3P is addressing CSAM victimization utilizing this global tool and support model.
LECTURE: Protecting Children Online: NCMEC’s response to combatting the sexual exploitation of children
This session will provide an overview of NCMEC’s role in combatting the online sexual exploitation of children. Participants will learn about the scope of the problem, how NCMEC collaborates with law enforcement, Electronic Service Providers (such as Meta, Google, Snap and others) as well as efforts to assist survivors in their removal of CSAM through programs like Take It Down.
LECTURE: Protecting Children from Sexual Violence through Research-Based Holistic Work
This presentation will emphasize the importance of research in developing effective interventions and advocating for evidence-based policies to prevent child sexual violence at a global level. It will share insights from unique global data gathered from victims, survivors, their families, active online offenders, and tech platforms used for sexual crimes against children. The presentation will also highlight the latest research findings that underscore the critical need for a comprehensive approach to addressing all forms of violence against children. Protect Children aims to create systemic change that ensures a safer future for all children.
LECTURE: Shame, secrecy and silence
In cybertrauma there is much shame, silence and secrecy. Professionals can often try too hard and rescue victims with their language and wants and needs without understanding the shame response in victims. In this lecture you will learn how to meet the victim where ‘they are’ and connect with them in order to help and heal rather than rescue and embed a shame shield. The lecture will provide interventions and ways in which to work with victims alongside using trauma informed and applied techniques.

LECTURE: When Publicly Available Data Becomes Valuable - What (and How) Can Hackers Find Out About Your Organization?
In the digital transformation era, data is becoming the new currency – but what happens when your organization doesn't understand the value of publicly available information? In this lecture, we'll discover how hackers use seemingly innocuous data to create sophisticated attacks against businesses of all sizes. Find out what information your organization is (unknowingly) sharing with the world and how malicious actors can use it to collect essential information, enter your systems and compromise security. Remember: “Hackers can win once, but we can win every time!”
LECTURE: Enhancing security operations with Microsoft Copilot for Security
Understanding attacks immediately is paramount for effective security operations. This presentation will explore how Microsoft Copilot for Security enhances the incident response framework through innovative technologies and intelligent solutions. We will also explore how you can transform security operations and incident response, facilitating decisive actions during incidents and leading to improved organizational resilience against evolving threats.
LECTURE: The NIS 2 Revolution: Are You Ready for the New Cybersecurity Legislation?
With the extension of its scope to a larger number of newly regulated organizations, the NIS2 Directive appears to be a revolution for many of those affected. For some, it is seen as a long-awaited change of the existing system, in which far too few organizations have been held accountable for insufficient cybersecurity measures. Others, however, fear it as a business threat to their entrepreneurial existence. We will show you how to use NIS2 as an opportunity that enables you to move faster into a digital future.
